Sitting on Kata Beach with a chilled glass of chardonnay to hand and the sun painting the sky from a psychedelic palette, it’s hard to imagine not being well in Phuket. The island represents different things to the five million visitors who arrive here in a typical year; a prominent theme is certainly hedonism and Phuket has a reputation as a sybaritic playground.

There is, however, an entirely different segment of the tourists with an almost diametrically opposite ethos to the majority of fun-seekers. For many visitors, Phuket represents a sanctuary away from the stress and chaos of the modern world in which to calm down, chill out and rejuvenate.
